How to Start a Business

Be Your Own Boss (BYOB) is business training for those who are interested in starting their own business.  The training covers several topics any business owner needs to know, including licensing/zoning information, insurance requirements, and IRS tax requirements, just to name a few.

Classes:

Held twice a year starting Feb-May and Sep-Dec.  The 12-week sessions will provide guidance for business start-ups or expanding businesses.

The coursework will cover the Core Four Business Planning Concept of

  1. Success Planning
  2. Market Planning
  3. Operations Planning
  4. Cash Flow Planning

A special emphasis on formulating and drafting a viable business plan.

Eligibility

Eligibility in based on income using a sliding scale. Scholarships are available for individuals with income at/or below 125% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. Other determination may be made by the Director of the program.

Tuition: $100.00.  Scholarships based on FPG (Federal Poverty Guidelines)

Veterans tuition will be waived upon proof of service.

Since 1997 MERC has been working to promote self-sufficiency and alleviate poverty in Montgomery County, PA.  The Mission of MERC is to provide a comprehensive level of business development services and grow small businesses in Montgomery County, with particular concentration on the low-to moderate income communities.
