What Does the Program Provide?

CADCOM's nutrition educators travel to food pantries, schools, farmer's markets, health fairs and other community events throughout Montgomery County to provide nutrition education to the county's low-income population.  Activites include distributing monthly nutrition newsletters and teaching nutrition classes at community sites across the county.  Classes at these sites must have a majority of attendees be income eligible

Classes include:

Simply Good Eating:  A series of nutrition classes open to all ages.  The series of six classes is held once per week for 1-2 hours.  Classes focus on how to maintain proper nutrition and how to overcome the obstacles that prevent healthy lifestyles.  Sessions are held as an open group and feature cooking demonstrations at every class.

Nutrition Classes:  A one time nutrition workshop or class at your site to offer tips and resources for staying healthy.  Past classes have focused on heart healthy eating, nutrition for families, and food label reading.  Classes are also taught to kids at schools, afterschool programs and summer camps.

Program Background and Details

Montco Nutrition Outreach! was originally known as Montgomery County Nutrition Education Network (MCNEN). MCNEN was started by CADCOM in October, 2000 as Montgomery County’s part of the statewide plan for Food Stamp Nutrition Education (FSNE).  As the program became more outreach oriented we changed our name to Montco Nutrition Outreach! to better reflect what we do. We work closely with Pennsylvania's nutritional community including Pennsylvania Nutrition Education Network (PA NEN) and Penn State University to share new information and to develop new educational programs.
